Character Degrees and Random Walks in Finite Groups of Lie Type
In this paper we prove some mainly asymptotic results concerning the irreducible character degrees of .nite groups of Lie type. Applications are given to the study of the mixing time of random walks on these groups, with certain conjugacy classes as generating sets. In various situations we show that the mixing time is 2; this seems to be the .rst determination of an exact bounded mixing time f...
متن کاملRetrieving Information about a Group from Its Character Degrees or from Its Class Sizes
We prove that a knowledge of the character degrees of a finite group G and of their multiplicities determines whether G has a Sylow p-subgroup as a direct factor. An analogous result based on a knowledge of the conjugacy class sizes was known. We prove variations of both results and discuss their similarities.
متن کاملFixed Point Theorems on Complete Quasi Metric Spaces Via C-class and A-Class Functions
In this paper, we present some fixed point theorems for single valued mappings on $K$-complete, $M$-complete and Symth complete quasi metric spaces. Here, for contractive condition, we consider some altering distance functions together with functions belonging to $C$-class and $A$-class. At the same time, we will consider two different type $M$ functions in contractive conditions because the qu...
متن کامل$C$-class functions on common fixed point theorems for weak contraction mapping of integral type in modular spaces
In this paper, we use the concept of $C$-class functions introduced by Ansari [4] to prove the existence and uniqueness of common fixed point for self-mappings in modular spaces of integral inequality. Our results extended and generalized previous known results in this direction.
متن کاملGroups whose set of vanishing elements is exactly a conjugacy class
Let $G$ be a finite group. We say that an element $g$ in $G$ is a vanishing element if there exists some irreducible character $chi$ of $G$ such that $chi(g)=0$. In this paper, we classify groups whose set of vanishing elements is exactly a conjugacy class.
